Call for contributions (communications & posters)

Deadline on June 30, 2025

International Symposium organized by the EUR ArChal and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne on the 4th and 5th of December 2025 (Auditorium Coubertin, Paris)

Since the mid-20th century, data modeling has become a key tool in the humanities and social sciences, offering new ways to explore complex societies and phenomena. With the growth of computing, models – ranging from spatial and statistical tools to simulations and ontological frameworks – now play a central role in research.

This interdisciplinary and diachronic symposium brings together archaeologists, geographers, historians, anthropologists, architects, and heritage specialists to discuss how we model the past, present and future. It will explore both the practical uses of modeling and the underlying methodologies, including network analysis, Bayesian methods, remote sensing, and AI. By fostering dialogue across disciplines and time periods, the event aims to better understand how modeling can help address major social, environmental, and heritage-related challenges.

The meeting will host thematic sessions (defined following the proposals) where data modeling will be addressed in connection with the challenges of the EUR ArChal. A list of thematic axes is suggested and detailed in the full call for contributions.

Download the call for contributions in English and French.

The symposium is open to master’s students, doctoral candidates, and professionals in the research community. Please download and complete the proposal submission form in Word format (communications and posters).

Contacts and proposals are to address no later than midnight on June 30, 2025 to the following e-mail address: colloquemodelisation@gmail.com

The symposium will be held in a hybrid format. The contributions will later be published in a special issue of the journal Archeologia e Calcolatori in English, French, or Italian.
