Research areas

Gilles’ research focuses on renewable energy deployment strategies and their territorial implications. His main areas of expertise are the European Union’s energy-climate policy, the energy policies of the Member States, the decarbonisation of the urban energy systems, the industrial and geopolitical challenges of the energy transition.

2010 : Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (French post-doctoral degree allowing its holder to supervise PhD students). Title: “Catching-up and economic integration dynamics in Central and Eastern Europe”.

1996 : PhD Geography (Lyon University) : Géopolitics of Eastern borders of Germany.
