Thesis Abstract

This doctoral research examines Naples as an international student destination through both trajectories and ordinary practices of international students. Focusing on everyday spaces and practices, this research analyses how international students interact with and transform the city of Naples, while also being shaped by it. The study also questions the idea of student mobility as inherently privileged, highlighting the diversity of student profiles and experiences. Situated at the intersection of urban geography and migration studies, the thesis explores how student mobilities relate to the internationalization of higher education, urban transformations, and emerging forms of mobility, blurring boundaries between migration, temporary stay and tourism. It also engages with debates on “studentification” and the diverse ways student presence are shaped by urban spaces, practices, and imaginaries.
