International

International Focus at the Heart of UMR’s Scientific Activities
The international dimension of the research carried out at Géographie-cités is constantly evolving. It is shaped in particular by area studies (Asia, North America, Europe) and supports the teams’ theoretical and methodological work, especially through comparative approaches.
This dynamic is driven by the internationalization of scientific practices—such as publications, conferences, mobility (research trips and fieldwork), joint PhD supervision—as well as active involvement in research networks and a strong commitment to building academic partnerships across borders.
Guest researchers
Since 2007, Géographie-cités has welcomed over a hundred researchers, most of whom come from abroad for a few months’ stay as part of ANR or international projects. Others are hosted as visiting professors by one of the UMR’s two supervising universities. Younger researchers who have been awarded thesis grants, visiting scholarships or CNRS delegations, stay for longer periods. Links with these researchers continue long after they have left the UMR, resulting in the co-publication of scientific articles.
