The Géographie-cinés group was launched in response to an initiative on audio-visual writing in the context of scientific research. Aimed at both young and more experienced researchers, Géographie-cinés aims to mobilize audio-visual forms of writing to enhance scientific work and serve as a research tool. Researchers are supported in developing a scientific question and expressing it in the form of a short film or audio-visual. The group since produced “Mémoires des Tartres” (C. Mattoug and J. Boulier, 2022). As of January 2025, four films are currently in production.

In addition, meetings between former and current doctoral students and tenured staff provide opportunities to create an audio-visual production to showcase the skills and careers of researchers, such as the first short film made during the confinement period: “Passer de la position de doctorante au métier actuel” (“Moving from Doctoral Student to Professional Researcher”).

To achieve these objectives, the UMR has invested in high-performance production equipment, and a researcher is responsible for monitoring and leading the group and its production initiatives: writing, filming, editing, broadcasting, etc. Training workshops are now being organized, and seminars with invited professionals are scheduled for 2023.

New working group members include researchers Christophe Queva, Ségolène Debarre, Hugues Pecout, Catherine Côme, and Sophie Baudet-Michel, and doctoral students, Marine Frantz, Corten Perez-Houis and Clément Nicole. The group is led by Joël Boulier.
