The panel discussion is organized by the research focus Environment, climate, energy of the Centre Marc Bloch in cooperation and with the support of the Embassy of France in Berlin and of the Climate Change Center Berlin Brandenburg. With the participation of Gilles Lepesant, Senior researcher at CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), Géographie-Cités (Paris) and Associate researcher at Centre Marc Bloch (Berlin) and at the Asian Institute for Energy Studies. (Hong-Kong).
The symposium is dealing with climate and energy policies in metropolitan areas (Berlin/Brandenburg, Paris/Île-de-France, Kyiv/Kyiv Oblast) in the context of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Actors and researchersfrom Kyiv/Kyiv Oblast, Paris/Île-de-France and Berlin/Brandenburg will address the question on how to advance the energy transition/revolution to renewables in light of the current crises. How can we – in the given metropolitan context – accelerate the phase-out of fossil fuels and the turn to renewables? How can participation be strengthened and citizens be motivated to engage in the transition? Which changes in regulatory frameworks, decision processes and ownership structures are needed? How can the above-mentioned metropolitan areas learn from and support each other on these questions? The focal point of the roundtable will be options of action of local and regional actors in the metropolitan areas.
