Critical perspectives on development

Theme: resilience

October 18-20, 2023

Deadline for submission of proposals: April 1, 2023

The call for papers for the doctoral days “Critical Perspectives on Development”, which will be held from October 18 to 20, 2023 on the Condorcet Campus is open. This is the second edition of these multidisciplinary and inter-institutional meetings, supported by the Condorcet Campus, the GEMDEV, the F3S and the EADI, and involving many research laboratories, including Géographie-cités, PRODIG, D&S, Pléiades, CEPN, CREDA, SOURCE and UTRPP
The first edition, which took place on November 3 and 4, 2022, gathered 40 French and international speakers around doctoral sessions, plenary conferences and workshops.

In light of this success, the JDRCD now wishes to become a regular and important scientific event to promote synergies between young social scientists contributing to critical research on development, both in the North and the South.

These days have three main objectives:

  • to exchange on the transversal and epistemological issues and challenges of development research during plenary conferences
  • to promote the work of young researchers in thematic presentation sessions (researchers at the beginning of their careers, doctoral students and masters students),
  • to better understand the diversity of ways of doing research and research jobs, through workshops.

This year, we propose to reflect on development through the notion of “resilience”. These days do not aim to close the debate on the polysemy and legitimacy of this notion. On the contrary, we consider that the different ways of understanding and criticizing resilience allow us to nourish both the transdisciplinary dialogue and the critique of development.

Proposals for papers, in French, English or Spanish, must be submitted by April 1, 2023 at the latest on the Doctoral Days website. Please note that papers must be presented in French during the conference.
