Summary of the presentation by Alain Musset
Science fiction sees the emergence of themes that evolve over time, that stabilize, that take root or that fade away because other subjects eventually impose themselves. Green Sun was first a novel by Harry Harrison (1966) and then a film by Richard Fleischer (1973) that reflected the anxieties of their time: overpopulation, environmental degradation, the rise of inequality, the unsustainability of our modes of production, with a clear critique of capitalism. At a time when Fabien Roussel is calling for everyone to have the right to “a good wine, a good meat, a good cheese”, we won’t say what the nutritional tablets that the inhabitants of New York are eating in this dystopian future that threatens us are made of.
