The international conference “Squat All Over the World” will take place on

8–9 January 2026
Campus Condorcet
Aubervilliers
France

This conference brings together research on squats, informal settlements and urban occupations across the world, with case studies from France, Spain, Serbia, India, China, Lebanon, Syria, Brazil, South Africa and more.

Three main themes structure the panels:

  • the trajectories of occupants,
  • the political practices developed within occupations,
  • the relationships with public authorities and housing markets.

A dedicated panel on the legal dimensions of squatting will also be led by members of Radical Housing Journal.

Two science–society roundtables will encourage dialogue between researchers and activists:

• one on the ethical challenges of researching highly repressed groups,
• another led by the collective Les Digitales, who curated their own panel on political ecology.

The conference will be streamed online, with access details available soon on the conference website

This event is co-organised by Olivia de Briey, Coralie Douat, Oriane Sebillotte and Alice Thibaud and Alizée Lazzarino, with support from:
