Comment les « City hospitals » modifient la géographie des structures hospitalières en Turquie
Basé sur une recherche empirique, l’ouvrage de Deniz Kimyon, chercheur associé à Géographie-cités, étudie la transformation multi-échelle de l’infrastructure des soins de santé en Turquie, qui a lieu à différents niveaux.
Les hôpitaux publics en Turquie ont subi des changements extrêmes depuis les années 2010 avec l’introduction des City Hospitals, projets de (re)développement urbain à grande échelle. La réorganisation des hôpitaux entraîne des changements au cœur et à la périphérie des zones urbaines. Cette transformation est marquée par l’implosion de nouvelles structures hospitalières, tandis que les hôpitaux publics multi-sites préexistants dans les zones urbaines centrales sont réduits, reconfigurés ou fermés. Cette évolution a donné lieu à des dynamiques spatiales conflictuelles à mesure que la géographie des hôpitaux se modifiait. L’auteur se penche sur l’organisation spatiale de l’hôpital, en tant qu’elle fournit des indications précieuses sur les processus urbains contemporains et interroge la dynamique du processus de reproduction de l’infrastructure sociale.

Fig. 10 analyzes data from project surveys, company activities, media surveys, and documentary research. It presents a network analysis of capitalist involvement and capital flow in the construction of CHs, highlighting key relationships involving construction, contracting, cooperations, loans, and guarantees. This analysis emphasizes the connections among various key entities: i) the state, represented by the Ministry of Health as a central actor; ii) construction companies; and iii) financial stakeholders, including international credit institutions and lending banks. Although the figure does not include many subcontractors, such as design firms and medical service providers, it offers a broader overview of capital flows and accumulation driven by hospital construction. Additionally, the companies depicted in the figure participate in large-scale urban projects such as housing developments, office buildings, and infrastructure initiatives (Kimyon, 2020).
